"The role of Captain of The Guard is one of great power and influence in the country of Salvatica. Originally this role was filled by Lady Vixal; a Sage of immense magical power artificially created by Felonian researchers who were occupying the country for a time. Lady Vixal was set free by Exeter, and she fought alongside him out of gratitude during The Salvatican Revolution which freed the country from Felonian rule. Exeter went on to become the first King Monarch of Salvatica, and Lady Vixal became Captain of The Guard. Though their name seems to imply that The Royal Guards exist only to protect the king, this was only a half truth during the years of Lady Vixal's rule. The true purpose of The Royal Guards was to defend the interests of The Lords and Nobles who had supported Exeter during the war, and rallied for his kingship. Exeter, a mere commoner was seen as quite the potential ideological threat to the nobility of Salvatica, and Lady Vixal, a Sage of incredible power was seen as a great potential physical threat. And so it was decided that Exeter's ideological threat would be dealt with by granting him a crown that went beyond elitist ideals, and made him into a god. And Lady Vixal would be charged with protecting this god, forcing her to stay at the palace, under the watchful eyes of the nobility and lords of the land. This cat and mouse game continued up until the time of Topsham; King Monarch The Fourth. The Royal Guard stated that Lady Vixal died in the nuclear attack that destroyed the old Salvatican capital, and the castle. And yet The Royal Guards except for Lady Vixal survived. In the confusion following the Felonian nuclear strike, there was virtually no inquiry into The Royal Guards or their structuring outside of Queen Parmelia, and The nobles and lords overseeing the restructuring. It's known that Parmelia used the help and influence of The Royal Guards to seat Durandel as Monarch, but if Durandel was her son or not is unknown, though she certainly claims he was. What is known is a young man named Maximillian takes over as Captain of the guard, and later his daughter, Maishara, takes over the role. Under Maximillian and Maishara The Royal Guard changes from a group of internal spies working on behalf of The countries lords and nobles to restrain the crown, into it's own power with strong ties to The Queens of Salvatica, as well as the lords and nobles. It's doubtful that Maximillian and Maishara were ever as powerful as Lady Vixal, but they are both powerful Sages in their own right, with Maishara believed to be the most powerful Sage in the country. Maishara was the first to engage Professor Hojo in battle when the wild dog turned himself into a toon and held the entire country hostage. Though the fight was essentially a draw, Maishara considers the only real threat to The Royal Guard power base to be the sudden, unexplainable appearance of Advisor Noric, and The Sage Corps he's directing the current King Monarch to build."
