DESIGN AN ULTRA-KAIJU
Oddly specific, ain't it?
The world of Ultra Monsters is so wide and varied and colorful that it's BEGGING for a contest
And with that, I thought it'd be fun to throw this at everyone, since it's been so long since we've had a proper contest.
Basically, design your own kaiju or alien or mecha or whatever for Ultraman to battle! What makes Ultra kaiju so special and fun is the wild abandon and sheer audacity that their designers embrace, but also the simple artistry of designing a creature to be brought to life through the POWER of Man in Suit, mother 'effers!
In other words, this doesn't mean to just draw a dragon or a dinosaur. It's GOT to look like it can be achieved with practical effects, specifically a man-in-suit.

FAQ -
"What's the difference between this and the last contests?"
- The difference is focus on a character that's brought to life specifically through man-in-suit means. That means working within the confines of what Japanese artists must take into account and working within the limitations of suitmation techniques.
"Isn't Man-In-Suit kind of limiting?"
- Only by your imagination! True, it must appear as though a Man-In-Suit must have a person (or people) within it, but a lot of creative suits are out there that utilize multiple actors, or the actor wearing the suit backwards, or scrunched up in a tiny, nonhumanoid form, or whatever!
"Can our kaiju be a marionette? Brought to life entirely with strings?"
- Sadly, no. Although that never stopped Eiji Tsuburaya, if we dive into that territory, it'll mess with the contest too much and introduce too many variables. Let's stick to suitmation for this!
"Any references for this?"
- Of course! I'll post them below
"So we can enter a kaiju...or an alien...or a robot...?"
- You got it! As long as it's a Man-In-Suit, it's an entry!
"What if our monster has attributes that aren't distrinctly humanoid?"
- You must include a diagram of how the actor fits in the suit and how extra appendages are controlled, be it by strings or animatronics or what have you.
"When is CGI acceptable?"
- They didn't need CGI in 1966! ...I GUESS you can say it can be used for laser beams or something...*grumble grumble*
"What about an origin story?"
- Origin stories, episode descriptions or what have you are not a necessity, but encouraged.
"Can it be connected to the Ultraverse in some way?"
- Of course!
"Color or Monotone?"
- Whichever you choose!
"Can we utilize a previously uploaded monster?"
- Generally no, but if you'd like to update or refine your own monster in a rubber suit form, have at it! It needs to be a new piece of art, regardless.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the rules -
- Entries only viable with a DeviantArt account.
- Your character MUST be in the form of a rubber suit. A human must be capable of climbing inside and utilizing it the way that Nakajima or any other suit actor would.
- You must include a diagram, however detailed you like, of how the actor (or actors) fits in the suit.
- Entries will only be accepted in the form of a note. If you only post it as a response to the journal or post it on my front page or email it, it will not be considered. NOTES ONLY.
- Evil Ultras/Dark Ultras not accepted.
- No redesigned Ultra kaiju from the series will be accepted!
- Entries must be recieved between October 5th and November 5th - that gives you a whole month!
Inevitably, I'll just be picking my three personal favorites. Oh, there'll still be REASONING behind it, but just sayin' "enter at your own risk"

Gonna Start on It Right now!
I'm not really familiar with Ultraman, but it's nothing a little research can't fix.
