Many have been wondering about this thing called "Kaijuland" that I keep mentioning here-and-there on this site and others. But what is it? WHY is it? IS IT ALIVE? AWESOME TERROR! DYNAMIC VIOLENCE! SAVAGE ACTION! Or whatever.
Simply put, Kaijuland is a new game/property/thing coming from the aptly named Kaiju Empire LLC, a California-based game development studio. While I was in Burbank for Botcon 2011, I was invited out to the studio for a tour by Bill J. who pretty much runs the ship. Bill, being a big kaiju fan (particularly Ultraman) liked my work and wanted to have me involved in some way. After a year or two of talking and flailing about, we made this:

Featuring the art of 5 different kaiju art gurus (myself included), it tells the brief origin stories of each of the five flagship monsters for the series, being Komododon (the last of the dinosaurs), Magnarok (the volcanic god), Megaplat (the giant...platypus), Gigashark (a monster shark with severe confidence issues) and Stabitha (a mutant amoeba with a softer side).
It's all part of a tie-in for this new Facebook game. Trust me, this ain't no sorry-sunava-throwaway FB game. A serious amount of time and development went into this, not to mention there's tons of plans including iOS and other platforms. Plus, some special kaiju-genre guests have been involved in making original monsters...but I won't spoil the surprise
The jist of the game is this - Not unlike Farmville or other social games, you build your Kaijuland city, add in apartments, office buildings, etc...and so do your friends!...AND THEN YOU SEND YOUR MONSTERS TO SMASH THEIR CITIES INTO RUBBLE. And you'll be all smug about it - "Yeah, how you like me now?"
...And then you come home to find out YOUR city's been smashed. It. Is. ON. Like an electric-finger-Kong.
The "official" launch is this coming Monday, but there will be lots of tweaks afterwards. Keep an eye on the sites below for info:
